Lake Ecosystems, Freshwater Ecosystems Flat (Not Flowing)

Lake Ecosystems, Freshwater Ecosystems Flat (Not Flowing)

The lake is a vast and silent body of water. Based on the penetration of incoming light, the ecosystem of the lake is divided into 2 regions, namely the light-penetrated areas of photon that photosynthesis can occur, as well as afloat areas that can not be penetrated by light.

Lake Ecosystem

In the lake ecosystem there is a drastic temperature difference in each depth. The area on the surface will have a different temperature (warmer) than the area at the base. Well, the dividing region between these two temperatures is known as thermoclirt region. As for these differences, the plant and animal communities that exist in the lake will vary according to the depth and distance from the edge. Because of that, the ecosystem of the lake is divided into 4 regions namely litoral areas, limnetic areas, profundal areas, and benthic areas.

a) The littoral region

Freshwater Ecosystems
The littoral region is the shallow water area of the shallow ecosystem of the lake so that sunlight can enter and penetrate it optimally. The plants in this area are identical consisting of aquatic plants rooted with leaves sticking out onto the surface of the lake. Various types of inherent algae, snails and mussels, crustaceans, fish, insects, amphibians, water reptiles, and semi-aquatic reptiles such as turtles, ducks, geese, snakes and mammals that often feed for are some of the animalia that normally inhabit littoral regions this.

b) The limnetic region

Ekosistem Danau
The area of limnetics is a region far from the edge of the lake ecosystem but still can be penetrated by sunlight. The limnetic region is inhabited by various phytoplankton, algae, and cyanobacteria. Algae and phytoplankton photosynthesize and multiply at high speed in summer and spring. They are devoured by zooplankton and small crustaceans. Zooplankton and small shrimp preyed on small fish Small fish preyed by large fish, then large fish preyed by snakes, turtles, and fish eaters.

c) Profundal area

Profundal area is a deep water area of lake ecosystem and can not be penetrated by sunlight. This area is inhabited by microbes and worms. They use oxygen in the water to interact through cellular respiration decomposing the detritus carried from the limnetic region.

d) Benthic areas

The benthic region is the base area of the lake ecosystem where benthos and decomposing dead organisms.

Besides categorized based on the ability of the penetration of sunlight, the lake ecosystem is also grouped based on the production of organic matter. In this case, there are 2 types of lakes ie oligotrophic lake and eutrophic lake. What is the oligotrophic lake and the eutrophic lake?

a) The oligotrophic lake

 Ekosistem Danau
The oligotrophic lake is an inner lake that is lacking food because phytoplankton in its limnetic region is unproductive. The characteristics of this lake include clear water, inhabited by a few living creatures, and at the bottom of the lake there is plenty of oxygen throughout the year.

b) Lake eutrophic

Lake eutrophic is a shallow lake rich in food content because phytoplankton in the limnetic region is very productive. The characteristics of this lake is the water is turbid, there are a variety of organisms, and oxygen is found only in the profundal region.

Well, that's the information about the classification of lake ecosystems. The lake ecosystem is one of the freshwater ecosystems that have a tapering condition because the water does not multiply
